Artist Statement
Stack of Levis is a marble sculpture realized for the 2026 Digital Stone Project Artist Residency. Growing up near an American military base in the Philippines, I was immersed in a community that deeply romanticized American cowboy culture, country music, and workwear. This unique cultural intersection has deeply shaped my identity and perspective, particularly through the lens of my experience as a Filipino American. By carving American workwear out of a precious stone, I aim to transform an everyday material into an object of adoration, mirroring my own idealization of the garment. This piece is an extension of a series that explores the complications of identity, culture, and memory, serving as a visual bridge between my Filipino roots and American culture and ultimately redefining my identity as a third-culture kid.
Currently on view for Per forza di levare, in Fortezza di Mont’Alfonso, Castelnuovo, IT
